About the Monitors range

A monitor gives a bigger, brighter image than the camera screen plus the tools that make exposure and focus reliable: waveform, false colour, peaking, zebras and LUT preview. Brightness above 1,000 nits is worth paying for outdoors. SDI inputs suit cinema cameras; HDMI covers mirrorless. Most run from NP-F batteries or D-Tap.

5-inch or 7-inch?

5-inch sits on a cage without unbalancing a small camera and suits gimbal work. 7-inch is easier to judge focus on and suits tripod and director use.

How bright is bright enough?

1,000 nits or more for direct sun; 400 to 500 nits with a sun hood is fine indoors and in shade.

Monitor or monitor-recorder?

A monitor shows the image. A monitor-recorder such as an Atomos Ninja also captures ProRes or RAW from the camera's HDMI or SDI output.
