About the Dynamic Microphones range

Broadcast dynamics such as the SM7B, SM7dB and PodMic sit close to the mouth on a boom arm and give the warm, controlled sound podcasts are known for. Hand-held stage dynamics such as the SM58 and e835 are built to be dropped and to reject feedback. The SM7B needs a preamp with plenty of clean gain or an inline booster; the SM7dB builds that preamp in.

Dynamic Microphones questions

Why do podcasters use dynamic microphones?

They pick up less of the room, so an untreated home office sounds tighter, and they tolerate plosives and loud speech. Close placement on a boom arm gives a consistent level.

Does the Shure SM7B need a booster?

It has a low output, so budget interfaces run out of clean gain. Either pair it with an interface that offers 60 dB or more, add an inline preamp, or choose the SM7dB which includes one.

Which dynamic mic works without an interface?

USB versions such as the RODE PodMic USB and the Shure MV7i include their own interface and connect straight to a computer or phone.
