Description
The Shure SM7dB is a dynamic vocal microphone for speech, singing and close-miked recording. It suits users who want a cardioid mic with built-in gain and controlled off-axis pickup, especially for voice work in studios, streaming setups and broadcast-style recording. Its active preamp helps when the connected gear does not provide much clean gain.
It uses a dynamic moving coil element with a cardioid polar pattern and a frequency response of 50 Hz to 20 kHz. The built-in preamp can be bypassed, and the mic offers bass roll-off and mid-range emphasis for shaping voice tone at the source. Output impedance is 150 Ω in bypass mode and 27 Ω in preamp mode. Net weight is 837 g.
In practice, the SM7dB connects to XLR gear and can be used with interfaces, mixers and preamps that supply phantom power when the internal preamp is engaged. It pairs well with a mic stand or boom arm and comes with a foam windscreen and a 3/8-16 thread adapter. The housing is black enamel aluminium and steel.
