A video tripod is chosen by payload first: the head's counterbalance and drag must suit the weight of your rigged camera, not the bare body. 75 mm bowl systems suit mirrorless and small cinema rigs; 100 mm bowls carry heavier cameras. Monopods with fluid bases give smooth pans where a tripod will not fit.

What payload do I need?

Weigh the camera with lens, cage, monitor and battery, then choose a head rated above that with counterbalance steps that cover it.

Fluid head or ball head for video?

Fluid head. It gives damped, repeatable pans and tilts; a ball head cannot.

75 mm or 100 mm bowl?

75 mm for rigs under about 8 kg; 100 mm for heavier cinema builds. Half-ball adapters convert between them.
