Camera Cage for Sony A7 IV, FX3 and More: Fit Guide
Which cage fits which Sony body, from the a7 IV, a7S III and a7R V to the FX3, FX30, FX3A, a6700, a7C II and ZV-E10, with a fit table and what to add next.
Short answer A camera cage for Sony a7 IV owners is easy to find because the a7 IV, a7S III and a7R V share one body shape, so cages such as the SmallRig 3667C list all three. The FX3, FX30 and FX3A also share a body, while the a6700, a7C II and ZV-E10 each need their own cage. Match the body named in the product title, not the family.
Every cage below is one we stock, and the camera list comes straight from the product name. If your body is not named in the title, treat the cage as a non-fit until the product page says otherwise. You can browse the full range of camera cages for Sony, Canon, Nikon and cinema bodies if yours is not covered here.
How to read Sony cage compatibility
A cage is machined around one body. It locks through the tripod socket, usually with a second anti-twist point, and its openings are cut for that camera's doors, ports, dials and screen hinge. A few millimetres of difference in a grip or a hinge is enough to block a battery door or a HDMI port.
Sony helps here because several bodies share a chassis:
- a7 IV, a7S III and a7R V share a shell, and many cages also list the Alpha 1 and a7R IV.
- FX3, FX30 and FX3A share a shell. Sony lists the same 129.7 x 77.8 x 84.5 mm body size for the FX3A and FX3; the visible change is a higher-resolution rear screen on the FX3A.
- a6700 is close to earlier a6000-series bodies, but not identical.
- a7C II and ZV-E10 are separate bodies with their own cages.
The traps are the look-alikes. The a7C II does not take cages made for the original a7C. The a6700 does not take cages made only for the a6100 to a6500. The ZV-E10 II is a different body from the ZV-E10, and the ZV-E1 is a different camera again.

Choosing a camera cage for Sony a7 IV, a7S III and a7R V
Owners of these three bodies have the widest choice, which makes the decision about style rather than fit.
Full cage
The SmallRig 3667C is the plain full-cage option. SmallRig lists 1/4"-20 and ARRI 3/8"-16 mounting points, cold shoes, a built-in HawkLock NATO rail and an Arca-Swiss base, so the caged camera can drop straight onto an Arca-type tripod head or gimbal plate. The 5583 adds a slot for an AirTag, and the 6026 adds an HDMI cable clamp, but note the 6026 lists the a7 V, a7R V and a7 IV, not the a7S III.
Half cage
The SmallRig 3639 half cage leaves more of the body exposed and keeps the camera's own grip feel. It suits a light run-and-gun setup with a microphone and a small light. Its title lists the a7 IV, a7S III, Alpha 1 and a7R IV, not the a7R V, so a7R V owners should choose a full cage.
Kits and modular cages
The 3669D, 4308 Rhinoceros and 3710 Rhinoceros Advanced are sold as kits, so check each product page for the handles and clamps included before comparing them with a bare cage. The 4798 Hybrid Modular cage is for the a7 IV only. a7S III owners who want an HDMI lock can pair the Original Cage for a7S III with the SmallRig HDMI cable clamp made for that cage.

What HawkLock means
HawkLock is SmallRig's quick-release system. A HawkLock handle or monitor mount pushes onto the rail and locks itself, then comes off with a release button. SmallRig notes that HawkLock and standard NATO accessories are not automatically interchangeable, so a HawkLock cage makes most sense if you plan to buy HawkLock handles too. The ordinary 1/4"-20 and ARRI threads still work with any brand.
Cage for Sony FX3, FX30 and FX3A
The FX3 body has threaded holes built in, so a cage for Sony FX3 users is mostly about protection, a flat Arca base and extra mounting space. The key question is the Sony XLR top handle.
- SmallRig 4183B is a full cage supplied with an HDMI cable clamp. SmallRig says the top NATO rail comes off so the Sony XLR handle can go back on.
- SmallRig 4184B is the handheld kit version, with an XLR handle extension, a hand strap and two NATO rails.
- SmallRig 4770 and 4771 are HawkLock quick-release kits. SmallRig describes the 4770 top rail as removable for the XLR handle.
- SmallRig 4772 is a HawkLock half cage with an Arca-Swiss bottom plate, compatible with the XLR handle once the top rail is removed.
- Tilta FX3/FX30 V2 comes as a bare full cage or as Lightweight, Basic and Pro kits, which suits buyers who want to start small and add later.
- Kondor Blue Cage with Trigger Handle names the FX3 only.
For the FX3A, three SmallRig cages name it in the title: 4183B, 4184B and 4771. Because Sony lists identical body dimensions, other FX3 cages are cut for the same shell, but confirm on the product page before buying if your camera is an FX3A.

Cage for Sony a6700, a7C II and ZV-E10
a6700
The SmallRig 4336 kit locks with a bottom 1/4"-20 screw plus an M2.5 anti-twist screw and includes a grip. It adds cold shoes, a NATO rail, ARRI 3/8"-16 locating holes and a QD socket for a strap. The 5060 kit covers the same ground with HawkLock quick release. If you want the lightest option, the SmallRig 4337 half cage lists the a6700, 6600, 6500 and 6400. Tilta's full cage for the a6700 comes in black or titanium grey. Skip the SmallRig CCS2310C for this camera, as its title stops at the a6500.
a7C II
Choose the SmallRig 4422 kit, the Tilta Basic Kit or the Tilta Half Cage Lightweight Kit, all of which name the a7C II and a7C R. SmallRig's 3081B and 3212 cages are for the original a7C.
ZV-E10
The SmallRig ZV-E10 Cage with Hand Grip is designed for the original ZV-E10. SmallRig does not list the ZV-E10 II for it, so ZV-E10 II owners should not assume a fit. A lighter step for that camera is the SmallRig 4950 baseplate for the ZV-E10 II.

Full cage, half cage or kit, and what to add next
A full cage gives the most mounting points and protection but adds weight. A half cage keeps the camera small and the grip natural, with fewer places to mount things. A kit costs more up front but saves buying a handle and clamp separately. If you are unsure whether you need a cage at all, our guide on whether you need a camera cage covers the alternatives.
Once the cage is on, most Sony shooters add the same few items:
- A handle. Browse handles and grips; match NATO, HawkLock or ARRI to the rail on your cage.
- A cable clamp and short HDMI cable if you run a monitor. The a7 IV, a7S III, a7R V, FX3 and FX30 have full-size HDMI, while the a6700, a7C II and ZV-E10 use micro-HDMI. See our camera cable guide.
- External power for long takes, covered in V-mount batteries explained.
- Fast cards, covered in our Sony memory card guide.

Questions
Will an a7 III cage fit the a7 IV?
Do not assume it will. The a7 IV shares its shell with the a7S III and a7R V, not with the a7 III. We stock a SmallRig Light Cage for the a7 III, a7R III and a9, but it does not name the a7 IV. Choose a cage whose title lists the a7 IV, such as the SmallRig 3667C or 3639.
Does a cage block the battery door or card slot?
Camera-specific cages are cut to leave the battery door, card door and ports open, which is why fit matters so much. SmallRig's 4336 for the a6700, for example, is shaped to clear the battery compartment. Half cages generally leave the most access. If you swap batteries often, look at the base in the product photos before you buy.
Can I keep the Sony XLR handle on an FX3 in a cage?
Yes, with most FX3 cages. SmallRig describes removing the top NATO rail on the 4183B, 4770 and 4772 to refit the Sony XLR handle, and the 4184B kit adds an XLR handle extension. Check the Tilta and Kondor Blue product pages for their handle arrangements.
Is a HawkLock cage worth it over a standard NATO cage?
It depends on your handles. HawkLock accessories push on and lock with a release button, which is quicker than a screw clamp, but they are not automatically interchangeable with standard NATO accessories. If you already own NATO handles, a standard cage avoids buying twice. The threaded holes work with any brand either way.
