About the Large Diaphragm range
A large capsule gives low self-noise and a full, detailed sound, which is why these are the first microphone in most vocal booths. They hear the room as well as the voice, so they reward acoustic treatment. Most need 48 V phantom power; the NT1 5th Generation also offers USB output with 32-bit float recording. Shock mounts and pop filters are listed under Microphone Stands and Mounts.
Large Diaphragm questions
Condenser or dynamic for home vocals?
A condenser captures more detail if the room is quiet and treated. In a lively or noisy room a dynamic microphone is more forgiving.
What is self-noise?
The microphone's own electronic hiss, quoted in dBA. Lower is better for quiet sources such as voice-over; the RODE NT1 range is known for very low self-noise.
Do these come with a shock mount?
Many do. The In the box list on each product page states whether a shock mount, pop filter or case is included.
