About the Networking range
Choose equipment based on the connection, speed and installation method you need. USB Ethernet adapters suit laptops and devices without a network port, while PCIe interface cards require an available expansion slot and compatible operating system. Check whether you need Gigabit Ethernet or 10GbE, RJ45 copper or SFP connectivity, and PoE support for powered devices. For cables, compare Cat5e, Cat6 or Cat6A, cable length, conductor type and shielding. Match connectors to the cable category, conductor gauge and solid or stranded construction.
Check the ports and standards on every connected device before ordering. A PCIe card will not suit a computer without the correct slot, and a USB-C adapter may need a compatible data-capable USB-C port. Ethernet components can connect across categories, but the complete link operates at the lowest-rated component. Cat6 connectors are not automatically suitable for every Cat6 cable. This range is organised into Interface Cards, Wireless Networking, Network Cables & Connectors and Networking, making it easier to compare adapters, Bluetooth accessories, termination parts and managed switches.
Networking questions
Will a Cat6 cable work with my existing router?
Usually, yes. Cat5e, Cat6 and Cat6A Ethernet cables commonly use the same RJ45-style connection and are backward compatible with older equipment. The link speed is determined by the lowest-rated device, cable, connector and installation component.
Do I need a PCIe network card or a USB Ethernet adapter?
Choose a PCIe card for a desktop computer with an available compatible expansion slot and a permanent internal installation. Choose a USB adapter for a laptop or computer without the required network port. Check the connector type, operating system support and target Ethernet speed first.
Can I use any RJ45 connector with Cat6 cable?
No. The connector must suit the cable category, conductor gauge, insulation diameter and solid or stranded construction. A connector may fit physically but fail to terminate reliably or limit the network link. Match the connector to the cable and use the appropriate crimping tool.
