About the Interface Cards range
Start with the connection your network or storage system supports. RJ45 cards use twisted-pair Ethernet, while SFP+ and SFP28 cards require compatible DAC cables, fibre modules or switch ports. Check the port count and link speed, such as 10GbE or 25GbE, and remember that full performance also depends on the switch, NAS, cables and the connected device. Confirm the card's PCIe generation and lane requirement, plus whether your case needs a full-height or low-profile bracket. Dual-port cards suit separate links, redundancy or higher aggregate capacity.
Check your computer or NAS manual before ordering. A PCIe x4, x8 or x16 physical slot may be required, and a long slot does not always provide enough electrical lanes. Confirm operating-system and driver support, available clearance, airflow and whether another card or graphics card blocks the slot. For RJ45 10GbE, cable quality and length matter, with Cat6 or Cat6a commonly required. SFP+ and SFP28 are not interchangeable with RJ45 without suitable transceivers. The range here is organised by card function, interface, speed and port count, rather than by slot size alone.
Interface Cards questions
Will a 10GbE PCIe card work in my computer?
It can, provided the computer has a compatible PCIe slot, sufficient lanes, physical clearance and supported drivers. Check the card specification and your motherboard or workstation manual. The network switch, cabling and other endpoint must also support the intended speed for a full 10GbE connection.
What is the difference between RJ45 and SFP+ network cards?
RJ45 cards connect with Ethernet cables and are convenient when your switch uses copper ports. SFP+ cards use DAC cables, fibre modules or compatible transceivers and must match the switch port type. RJ45 and SFP+ are different interfaces, so choose the card that suits your existing network.
Can I install an interface card in a Synology NAS?
Only if the NAS model has a compatible PCIe expansion slot and supports the card and its drivers. Check Synology's specifications for the exact NAS model before buying. Also confirm the card's connector, speed, bracket, cooling requirements and whether the NAS can use all available PCIe lanes.
