Description
The Sennheiser MKH 416 is a short shotgun microphone for film, radio and television work, especially outside broadcast use. It suits boom operators, location recordists and camera crews who need focused dialogue capture in a compact mic that rejects off-axis sound well.
It uses a pressure gradient condenser design with a hypercardioid pattern at low and mid frequencies, changing to a lobar pattern above 2 kHz. Frequency response is 40 to 20,000 Hz, dynamic range is 117 dB and the maximum input sound level is 130 dB. Sensitivity is 25 mV/Pa, output impedance is 25 ohms, and it runs on 48 V phantom power. It has an XLR-3M output, no pad and no low frequency roll-off.
In use, it is typically mounted on a boom or other rig for speech capture in controlled or outdoor production settings. It pairs with standard 48 V phantom powered audio equipment and connects through a 3-pin XLR input. The box includes an MZW-415 foam windscreen, an MZQ100 quick release for K3U, MD409 and MKH-416, and a case.
