About the Filters range

Start with your lens thread size, printed after the diameter symbol on the front of the lens, then choose the type. A protector stays on; a polariser comes out for reflections and skies; ND lets you shoot wide open or at a cinema shutter speed in daylight. Magnetic systems from NiSi and PolarPro swap filters in seconds. Every filter page lists the diameter and the strength or effect.

Filters questions

What filter size do I need?

The thread diameter is printed on the lens, for example ⌀67. If you own several lenses, buy for the largest thread and add step-up rings for the rest.

Do filters reduce image quality?

Good multi-coated glass from these brands has no visible effect on sharpness. Cheap uncoated filters add flare. Stacking several filters can vignette on wide lenses.

Fixed ND or variable ND?

A fixed ND is optically simplest and suits stills. A variable ND covers 1 to 5 or 2 to 9 stops with one filter and suits video, where light changes shot to shot.
