About the PA, Speakers & Amplifiers range

Start with the audience size, room or outdoor area, and expected listening distance. Powered PA systems combine the speaker and amplifier, simplifying setup. Passive speakers need a separate amplifier. Compare continuous or program power rather than peak wattage alone, then check maximum SPL, frequency response, dispersion and driver size. Column systems suit portable speech and music setups where wide coverage and quick packing matter. Stage monitors are designed to face performers, while full-range speakers project sound towards the audience. Inputs, Bluetooth, mixer channels, microphone support and mounting options can also affect your choice.

Check whether your system is powered or passive before ordering cables and an amplifier. For passive speakers, match the amplifier to the speaker impedance, commonly 4 or 8 ohms, and confirm output at that load. Connecting more speakers in parallel can reduce the total impedance and overload an amplifier. Do not compare watt figures without checking how they were measured. This range includes portable column PA systems, powered coaxial stage monitors, stereo power amplifiers and ceiling speakers, so choose by placement and use rather than appearance alone. Check each product page for connectors, mounting details and dispatch time.

PA, Speakers & Amplifiers questions

Do I need an amplifier for PA speakers?

You need an amplifier for passive PA speakers, unless another suitable amplifier is already built into the system. Powered or active PA speakers include their own amplifier, so they can usually connect directly to a mixer, microphone or playback source. Check the product specifications before buying additional amplification.

What wattage PA system do I need?

The required output depends on audience size, venue dimensions, listening distance, background noise and whether you are using speech or music. Do not choose by wattage alone. Also compare maximum SPL, coverage and speaker placement. Outdoor use and louder music generally require more headroom than a small indoor presentation.

Can I connect two speakers to one amplifier?

Only if the amplifier supports the combined speaker load. Two speakers connected in parallel reduce the total impedance, which can increase amplifier output but may exceed its safe operating limit. Check each speaker's impedance and the amplifier's rated output at that load before connecting them. Use the recommended speaker cables and connectors.
