DJI Osmo Pocket 3 vs 4: Which to Buy and What to Add

Osmo Pocket 3 and Pocket 4 compared on DJI's published specifications, what the standard and Creator Combos include, and the ND, mic, power and card accessories worth adding.

Updated 6 min read By Electronic Australia

Short answer The Osmo Pocket 4 keeps the Pocket 3's 1-inch sensor size and 20mm f/2.0 lens but adds a new stacked sensor, 4K/240fps slow motion, 107GB of built-in storage, 2x lossless zoom and a longer rated battery life. The Pocket 3 still records 4K/120fps with 10-bit D-Log M and costs less. Buy the Pocket 4 if storage, slow motion and runtime matter; the Pocket 3 if you want the lower outlay.

The DJI Osmo Pocket 3 vs 4 decision is closer than the model numbers suggest, because both use a 1-inch sensor behind the same 20mm equivalent f/2.0 lens. The differences are in slow motion, storage, zoom, battery and audio. Below we compare the published specifications, explain what each combo adds, and list the accessories worth buying. Both cameras sit in our gimbal stabilisers range.

DJI Osmo Pocket 3 vs 4: specifications compared

These figures come from DJI's own specification and store pages.

Osmo Pocket 3 Osmo Pocket 4
Sensor 1-inch CMOS New 1-inch stacked CMOS

Top slow motion 4K/120fps 4K/240fps
Colour 10-bit D-Log M 10-bit D-Log, 14 stops dynamic range
Zoom Digital: 2x at 4K, 4x at 1080p 2x lossless, up to 4x
Storage No built-in storage, microSD up to 1TB 107GB built-in plus microSD
Screen 2-inch OLED 2-inch OLED, rotatable

Audio with DJI Mic Direct link to two DJI Mic 2 or Mic Mini transmitters Direct link to two DJI Mic transmitters, 4-channel output

DJI rates both runtimes at 1080p/24fps with Wi-Fi and the screen off, so real-world 4K use will be shorter on either camera.

What the Pocket 4 changes in practice

  • Slow motion: 4K/240fps doubles the Pocket 3's 4K/120fps. DJI notes 4K/240 is only available in Slow Motion mode.
  • Storage: the 107GB internal storage holds about 600 minutes of 1080p/24fps or 220 minutes of 4K/60fps at the standard bit rate, according to DJI. It transfers at up to 800 MB/s with the supplied USB 3.1 cable. You can still add a microSD card.
  • Zoom and tracking: a new Zoom button switches between 1x and 2x lossless zoom, and DJI says the updated ActiveTrack works at up to 4x zoom. A Custom button takes presets such as gimbal mode changes.
  • Audio: with one or two DJI Mic transmitters connected, files carry two tracks: the transmitters on one, the built-in stereo mics on the other. DJI states the first-generation DJI Mic does not connect directly.
  • Colour: DJI lists 10-bit D-Log in normal Video mode only.

Where the Pocket 3 still makes sense

The Pocket 3 records 4K at up to 60fps in normal video, 4K/120fps slow motion and 10-bit D-Log M, and weighs 179 g according to DJI. For vlogging, travel and family video that rarely needs 240fps, it covers most of what the Pocket 4 does. Two things to weigh: it needs a microSD card to record at all, and DJI's specification page lists software updates for it until 31 December 2026.

Standard vs Creator Combo

Both cameras come as a standard package or a Creator Combo, and the contents differ between generations. This list is from DJI's Australian store.

Item Pocket 3 Creator Pocket 4 Creator
Wireless mic transmitter DJI Mic 2 DJI Mic 3
Battery Handle Included Not included
Fill light Not included Included
Wide-angle lens Included Included (Pocket 3 lens)
Mini tripod and carrying bag Included Included

The standard Pocket 3 comes with a protective cover, a handle with a 1/4-inch thread, a wrist strap and a cable. The standard Pocket 4 comes with a gimbal clamp, a handle with a 1/4-inch thread, a wrist strap, a portable pouch and a USB 3.1 cable.

Is the Osmo Pocket Creator Combo worth it

If you record yourself talking, the wireless mic transmitter is the main reason to choose a Creator Combo, since a mic on your collar picks up voice far more cleanly than a camera held at arm's length. The Pocket 3 Creator Combo also includes the Battery Handle, while the Pocket 4 Creator Combo swaps it for a fill light. If you shoot long days on a Pocket 4, budget for the Pocket 4 Battery Handle separately. DJI rates it at roughly 150 extra minutes.

DJI also sells the Osmo Pocket 4P, a separate dual-lens model. We stock it in combo form, but it is a different camera from the Pocket 4 and outside the scope of this comparison.

Osmo Pocket accessories worth adding

ND filter for Osmo Pocket 3 and 4

Both Pockets have a fixed f/2.0 aperture, so in daylight the camera can only control exposure with shutter speed and ISO. That pushes the shutter high and makes motion look choppy. An ND filter brings the shutter back toward double the frame rate, as explained in our ND filter guide for video. DJI lists its magnetic ND filter set among Pocket 4 accessories, and third-party kits in our range are named for both the Pocket 3 and Pocket 4. Freewell names its Pocket filter sets by light level, such as Bright Day, so pick by where you film most: beaches and snow need stronger filters than overcast streets.

DJI Mic Mini with Osmo Pocket

Because both cameras receive DJI Mic transmitters directly, you only need a transmitter, not a full receiver kit. DJI's Pocket 3 page names Mic 2 and Mic Mini transmitters, and the Pocket 4 is also sold in an Audio Combo with a Mic Mini 2 transmitter. Check DJI's supported model list before pairing a newer transmitter with a Pocket 3.

Power, grip and storage

  • Power: the Pocket 4 Battery Handle, or a clip-on power bank made for Pocket 3 and 4 if you prefer USB-C charging on the go.
  • Grip and support: a mini tripod doubles as a handle for walk-and-talk shots. A cage adds cold shoe and thread points for a light or mic.
  • Cards: the Pocket 3 cannot record without one. DJI's recommended list includes Lexar SILVER PLUS microSDXC cards, which Lexar rates V30. On the Pocket 4, a card is optional extra space beyond the 107GB built in.
  • Protection: DJI states the Pocket 4 is not waterproof, and the gimbal is the most exposed part of either camera. A padded case such as the Ulanzi PK-04 carrying bag protects it in a backpack, and it is worth fitting the supplied gimbal clamp or cover before packing the camera away.

More mounts and add-ons are in gimbal accessories and filter kits, and cards are in micro SD cards. The full DJI range includes the wider Mic line-up.

Which Osmo Pocket to buy

  • Pocket 4 if you want 4K/240fps, prefer not to manage cards, need the longer rated runtime, or plan to use two mics with separate tracks.
  • Pocket 3 if your budget is tighter and 4K/120fps, 10-bit D-Log M and microSD recording cover your work.
  • Either Creator Combo if you speak to camera, since it includes a wireless mic transmitter.

Questions

Do Osmo Pocket 3 accessories fit the Pocket 4?

Some do. DJI lists the Osmo Pocket 3 Expansion Adapter as a Pocket 4 accessory, and the Pocket 4 Creator Combo ships with the Pocket 3 Wide-Angle Lens. Battery handles are model-specific in DJI's naming, so buy the Pocket 4 Battery Handle for a Pocket 4. Third-party filters and mounts in our range state which models they fit.

Does the Osmo Pocket 4 need a microSD card?

No. It has 107GB of built-in storage, which DJI says holds about 220 minutes of 4K/60fps at the standard bit rate. It also accepts a microSD card for more space. The Pocket 3 has no built-in storage, so it needs a microSD card to record.

Can I use a DJI Mic Mini with the Osmo Pocket?

Yes. DJI says the Pocket 3 connects directly to up to two DJI Mic 2 or Mic Mini transmitters, with no receiver needed. The Pocket 4 also connects directly to two DJI Mic transmitters and is sold in a combo with the Mic Mini 2 transmitter. The first-generation DJI Mic does not connect directly to the Pocket 4.

Which is better for low light, Pocket 3 or Pocket 4?

DJI does not publish a like-for-like low-light test. Both use a 1-inch sensor and f/2.0 lens. The Pocket 4 uses a new stacked sensor and is rated at 14 stops of dynamic range, and DJI sells a fill light in the Pocket 4 Creator Combo for dim scenes. The Pocket 3 offers a Low-Light Video mode at up to 4K/30fps.
