Description
The Sennheiser MKE 400 is a compact on-camera shotgun microphone for recording dialogue on cameras and mobile devices. It suits creators who want a directional mic that helps focus on the speaker and reduce off-axis noise. It is useful for interviews, vlogs, run-and-gun video and other single-source speech recording where clear spoken audio matters.
It uses a pre-polarized condenser transducer with a super-cardioid pickup pattern, a 50 to 20,000 Hz frequency response and a 132 dB SPL maximum input level. Sensitivity is switchable at 1 kHz between 23, -42 and -63 dBV/Pa. It runs on 2 AAA batteries, provides more than 100 hours of operating time and includes a low-cut filter, a 3-step sensitivity switch and headphone monitoring with volume control.
In practice, the MKE 400 mounts on a camera or connects to a mobile device for recorded speech. It has a 3.5 mm screwable microphone output and a 3.5 mm headphone output for live monitoring. The box includes the MKE 400 microphone, locking TRS to TRS and TRS to TRRS coiled cables, a furry windshield, a drawstring pouch, a quick guide and a safety guide.
