About the Power Adaptor Cables range

Match three things: the source connector, the device connector and the voltage. D-Tap outputs follow the battery's voltage, which on a V-mount pack runs up to about 16.8 volts when fully charged, so they suit devices built to accept that range. Cameras and devices that need a fixed voltage need a regulated cable that converts it. USB-C Power Delivery cables negotiate a charging profile with the device, but the camera must support USB-C power input for this to work. Also check the barrel plug size, such as 5.5 x 2.5mm, and its polarity.

Plugging an unregulated D-Tap cable into a device with a narrow input range is the mistake that damages gear, so read the input specification on the camera or monitor before connecting anything. Coiled cables keep runs tidy on a moving rig, while short straight cables suit fixed builds, and right-angle plugs reduce strain near ports. If a camera shows a battery warning or powers down under load, the cable or battery may not supply enough current, so check the camera's power draw with its accessories attached.

Power Adaptor Cables questions

What is a D-Tap connector?

D-Tap, also called P-Tap or PowerTap, is a two-pin DC outlet found on V-mount and Gold mount batteries and many rig power plates. It supplies the battery's raw voltage, so a cable from it either passes that voltage through or regulates it to what the connected device needs.

Can I power my mirrorless camera from a V-mount battery?

Often, yes. If the camera accepts USB-C Power Delivery input, a D-Tap to USB-C PD cable can power or charge it. Otherwise you need a dummy battery cable made for that camera. Check the camera maker's notes on whether USB-C power runs the camera while recording.

Why are some cables labelled regulated?

A regulated cable holds its output at a set voltage regardless of how charged the battery is. This protects cameras and devices that only accept a specific voltage. Unregulated cables pass the battery voltage straight through, which suits equipment built to accept a wide input range.
