Compare the battery mount, charging channels, output voltage, current and connectors. A dual or quad charger can reduce charging time when several batteries are in rotation. Check whether the charger supports simultaneous charging, and confirm its output is suitable for powering a camera or accessory. For direct camera power, match the power supply's voltage, wattage and connector to the camera. A 4-pin XLR output, D-Tap connection or camera-specific plug serves a different purpose, so do not select by wattage alone.
V-Mount and Gold Mount are different battery interfaces and are not interchangeable unless the product specifically states compatibility. D-Tap chargers also require a compatible D-Tap-equipped battery and the correct voltage. Check the battery model, mount type, connector, input voltage and required charging current before ordering. Can I use a V-Mount charger with a Gold Mount battery?
Usually not. V-Mount and Gold Mount use different physical interfaces, so the charger must match the battery mount. Check the product specification before ordering. Do not rely on similar voltage alone, as the mounting and electrical connections may differ.
What is the difference between a battery charger and a camera power supply?
A battery charger replenishes a compatible camera battery. A power supply converts AC power for direct use with a camera or accessory. Some multi-bay chargers also provide a DC or 4-pin XLR output, but the output voltage, current and connector must match the equipment.
Is a D-Tap charger suitable for every V-Mount battery?
No. The battery needs a compatible D-Tap or PowerTap input, and the charger's voltage and connector must be suitable. Confirm the battery specification before connecting it. A V-Mount battery may have a D-Tap output without supporting D-Tap charging.
