Video Routers, Switchers & DA's

18 products from 3 brands, including Blackmagic, AJA, Canare. Prices from $243.95 to $5,447.95, including GST.

Video routers, switchers and distribution amplifiers manage how video signals are selected, combined, monitored and sent to multiple destinations. They suit live production, broadcast, venues, studios, corporate events and fixed installations. Choose from Blackmagic, AJA and Canare equipment for SDI routing, live switching, multiview monitoring and signal distribution.

About the Video Routers, Switchers & DA's range

Start with the signal format and bandwidth. Check whether your sources and displays use SDI, HDMI or both, then match the required SD, HD, 3G-SDI, 6G-SDI or 12G-SDI standard. For switchers, compare the number of inputs, outputs, mix effects, keyers, multiview outputs and ISO recording features. For routers and DAs, check the input-to-output configuration, signal reclocking and whether every output must carry the same source. Also confirm supported resolution, frame rate and interlaced or progressive formats.

SDI uses BNC connections, but a BNC connector alone does not confirm compatibility. A 12G-SDI device may not provide 12G operation on every input or output, and a 3G model cannot carry 4K 12G signals. Check cable type and run length, especially for higher-bandwidth formats. Do not confuse a distribution amplifier with a router: a DA copies one input to several outputs, while a router selects different sources. Rack width, power requirements and connector count also matter when planning an installation.

Video Routers, Switchers & DA's questions

What is the difference between a video router, switcher and distribution amplifier?

A video router selects and sends different inputs to assigned outputs. A switcher changes between sources during a live production and may add transitions, keying and effects. A distribution amplifier, or DA, takes one input and duplicates it across multiple outputs for monitors, recorders or other equipment.

Can I use a 12G-SDI device with HD or 3G-SDI equipment?

Only if the specific device supports the required lower SDI rates. Many multi-rate products accept several SDI standards, but this varies by model and connection. Check the product specifications for supported formats, resolution and frame rates before connecting 12G-SDI, 3G-SDI or HD-SDI equipment.

What should I check before buying an SDI video switcher in Australia?

Check the number and type of SDI inputs and outputs, supported formats, frame rates, switching features and monitoring outputs. Confirm whether you need HD or Ultra HD, how many cameras and sources you will connect, and whether your existing BNC cabling and displays support the selected SDI standard.
