Description
The Audio Technica ATH-M40x is a closed-back over-ear headphone for mixing, tracking and general studio monitoring. It suits users who want a wired headphone with a focused, isolated fit and a flat, even sound signature for checking balances and detail without adding much colour.
It uses 40 mm neodymium drivers with CCAW voice coils, a frequency response of 15 Hz to 24 kHz, 98 dB sensitivity and 35 ohms impedance. Maximum input power is 1600 mW at 1 kHz. The design is circumaural and sound-isolating, with 90-degree swivelling earcups for single-ear monitoring. Weight is 240 g without the cable.
In use, the ATH-M40x connects to mixers, audio interfaces, headphones amps and other gear with a 3.5 mm connection and screw-on 1/4 inch adapter. It comes with a 1.2 to 3 m coiled cable, a 3 m straight cable and a carry pouch. The cable is detachable, which makes it easier to swap cables when needed.
