About the Matte Boxes range

A matte box holds rectangular filters in front of any lens and shades the front element from flare. Clamp-on models attach to the lens by an adapter ring and suit mirrorless and small cinema rigs; rail-mounted models swing away for lens changes and carry more stages. Check the lens front diameter against the rings included.

Matte Boxes questions

Do I need a matte box if I use screw-in filters?

Not until you use several lenses with different threads, stack filters or need a top flag. Then one matte box and one set of 4 x 5.65 filters serves every lens.

What adapter ring do I need?

One that matches your lens front diameter, for example 82 mm to 95 mm. Rings are sold separately and listed under Matte Box Adapter Rings.

Clamp-on or rail-mounted?

Clamp-on for light rigs and gimbals. Rail-mounted for cinema lenses, swing-away lens changes and heavier filter stacks.
