Focus and zooming controls let camera operators adjust a lens without touching the barrel, from tripod handle rocker controllers for camcorders to demand units for broadcast lenses and gear rings for follow focus. The range also includes macro focusing rails for close-up stills. We stock Varizoom, Libec, Blackmagic Design, NiSi and Tilta, suited to tripod, studio and broadcast operators.

About the Zoom & Focus Controls range

Match the controller to the camera or lens interface first. Many camcorders accept a LANC connection, which carries zooming, focus and record commands through one small jack, while broadcast lenses use servo connectors that need a matching demand unit. Look at how the control mounts, usually on a tripod pan handle, and at the rocker's feel: variable-speed rockers let you ease into a slow move. For manual focus on cinema lenses, gear rings add teeth to lenses that lack them. Macro rails move the whole camera in fine steps for close focus work.

The most common mistake is assuming LANC works on every camera. Many mirrorless and cinema cameras have no LANC port, and some camcorders use a different remote protocol, so check the camera's remote terminal before ordering. Broadcast demand units must match the lens servo connector and the camera system. Gear rings need the correct diameter range for the lens and the same 0.8 module pitch as the follow focus. For macro rails, check the load rating and the quick release standard, usually Arca-Swiss, against your camera and lens.

Zoom & Focus Controls questions

What is a LANC controller?

LANC is a remote control protocol used by many camcorders, carried through a small 2.5mm jack. A LANC controller mounts on a tripod handle and sends commands for zooming, focus and record start or stop, so the operator can keep both hands on the tripod.

Will a focus demand work with any lens?

No. Broadcast demand controllers connect to the lens servo system, so they need a lens with a compatible servo connector and a camera system the demand is designed for. Check the connector type and supported lenses on the product page before ordering.

What is a macro focusing rail?

A macro focusing rail moves the camera forwards and backwards in fine, controlled steps, which is easier than turning the focus ring at high magnification. It is used for close-up stills and focus stacking, where many frames at slightly different focus distances are combined.
