Booms and grips help you position a microphone close to the sound source while reducing handling noise and cable movement. Choose from boompoles and fishpoles for overhead recording, or grips and mic suspensions for handheld, stand and pole use. The range includes Rycote, RODE, K-Tek and Deity Microphones for film, video, location sound and interviews.

About the Booms & Grips range

Choose a boompole by its collapsed and extended length, section count, material, weight and locking system. A longer pole gives more reach, but adds leverage and fatigue during extended takes. Aluminium is generally durable and cost-conscious, while carbon fibre can reduce carrying weight. Check whether the pole has an internal XLR cable, a bottom connector, or no cable. For grips and suspensions, compare microphone diameter and length limits, shock isolation, cable management, mounting thread and whether a handheld grip or pole adaptor is included.

Start with the microphone and its mounting requirements, not the accessory name. Confirm the microphone diameter, body length, connector position and required thread before ordering. A pistol grip or suspension may fit only a stated diameter range, and a camera shoe mount is not the same as a 3/8-inch boompole connection. This category is organised into Boompole & Fishpoles for reach, and Grips & Mic Suspensions for mounting and vibration control. Quick-release systems and adaptors can simplify changing compatible accessories, but do not assume cross-brand fit without checking specifications.

Booms & Grips questions

What length boompole should I buy in Australia?

Choose a length that reaches the subject while keeping the microphone just outside the frame. Shorter poles are easier to carry indoors and for interviews. Longer poles provide more overhead reach but require more control. Compare both the working length and collapsed length, especially if you transport the pole regularly.

Will any shock mount fit my shotgun microphone?

No. Shock mounts use different microphone diameter and length ranges, mounting threads and connector arrangements. Check the manufacturer's compatibility information against your microphone model. Also confirm whether you need a handheld grip, a boompole adaptor, a camera shoe connection or a 3/8-inch thread.

Do I need a boompole with an internal XLR cable?

An internal cable keeps the lead contained and can reduce cable movement around the pole. It is useful for location recording and faster setup, but it may add cost and requires the correct connector arrangement. If you already own a suitable cable, an uncabled pole can offer a simpler setup.
