About the Softboxes & Accessories range

Choose the softbox shape and size for your subject and working space. Larger softboxes create broader, softer light, while smaller models are easier to position in compact rooms. Octagonal and lantern designs spread light around a subject, rectangular models suit portraits and products, and strip softboxes provide narrower edge or rim lighting. Check whether the front diffuser, inner diffuser and grid are included. A grid limits off-axis spill and gives more directional control without removing the softbox's soft quality. Quick-release frames can also make setup and pack-down faster.

Check the light's mount before buying. A Bowens mount softbox fits a light with a matching Bowens S-type accessory mount, but manufacturer-specific mounts and panel fittings are not interchangeable. Some softboxes are made for particular fixture series, such as the GVM 480LS, 560AS and 800D RGB range. Compare the listed diameter or dimensions with your available space, stand strength and storage bag. Product sizes may be shown in centimetres or inches, so check both before ordering. A speed ring or adaptor may be required for a different mount.

Softboxes & Accessories questions

Will a Bowens mount softbox fit my LED light?

It will fit if the LED light has a compatible Bowens S-type accessory mount and can support the softbox. Check the light's specifications and the softbox listing before ordering. A proprietary fixture mount, panel fitting or different speed ring may require a separate adaptor.

What size softbox should I use for portraits?

A larger softbox produces broader, softer illumination and is useful for full-body portraits or groups, provided you have enough room. A smaller softbox is easier to position in a home studio or for headshots. The subject distance and desired shadow softness matter as much as the stated size.

Do softboxes include a grid?

Some include a fabric grid, while others are supplied with the diffuser only or accept a separately purchased grid. Check the individual product page for the included accessories. A grid narrows the spread and helps keep light off backgrounds, walls and nearby parts of the set.
