About the Subwoofers range
Choose the driver size, frequency response and maximum output for your room or audience. Smaller 6 to 8 inch studio subwoofers suit desktop setups and compact rooms, while 10 inch models provide more low-end headroom. Live sound systems commonly use 15 or 18 inch PA subwoofers for higher output and extended bass. Check the crossover range, phase control, input and output connections, and amplifier design. A variable crossover helps match the subwoofer to your main speakers, while published dimensions and weight help with placement and transport.
Match the subwoofer to the system it will join. Studio models generally use balanced inputs and outputs, allowing your audio interface to feed the subwoofer before the signal passes to the monitors. Set the crossover near where the monitors begin to roll off, then adjust by ear and room response. PA models need suitable mixer or speaker outputs, and should be matched to the mains for connection type, output level and application. Do not choose by wattage alone, and remember that a larger cabinet needs more floor space and transport capacity. All products here are subwoofers, organised by their listed specifications and intended use.
Subwoofers questions
What size subwoofer do I need for studio monitors?
For compact home studios, an 8 inch subwoofer commonly suits 5 to 7 inch monitors. A 6 inch model can suit a smaller desktop setup, while a 10 inch model may provide more headroom in a larger room. Use the monitor's published low-frequency response to set the crossover.
Can I connect a subwoofer to any PA speaker?
Not necessarily. Check the subwoofer's input and output connectors, signal requirements and crossover arrangement against your mixer and main speakers. Powered PA subwoofers normally accept a line-level signal and pass it to the tops, but the exact wiring depends on the equipment.
Where should I place a studio subwoofer?
Start with the subwoofer on the floor along the front wall, between or slightly off-centre from the monitors. Room modes can create uneven bass, so move it and check several listening positions. Keep the left and right monitors symmetrical, then adjust crossover and phase.
