About the Inline Problem Solvers range
Start with the problem and signal type. Check whether the device handles microphone level, line level or both, and confirm balanced XLR, stereo or mono connections. An inline preamp such as the SE Electronics DM1 Dynamite needs 48V phantom power from the interface or mixer, while a passive phantom-power blocker is used to stop that voltage reaching connected equipment. For monitoring, check stereo operation, headphone connection, input and pass-through sockets, level controls and any limiter function. Compare the required gain, attenuation or conversion direction rather than choosing by appearance.
Compatibility depends on the complete signal path, not just the connector. Do not use an inline preamp with a condenser microphone that already requires phantom power, and take care with ribbon microphones and other equipment that should not receive phantom power. Match stereo converters to the source and destination, check whether a monitor amplifier expects mic or line input, and allow space for an inline unit between cables. Product pages show each model's connections and dispatch time.
Inline Problem Solvers questions
What is an inline audio problem solver used for?
It is a small device placed between audio cables or equipment to solve a particular signal problem. Depending on the model, it can add microphone gain, block phantom power, convert balanced and unbalanced signals, or provide personal monitoring without replacing the main mixer or interface.
Can I use an inline microphone preamp with a condenser microphone?
Usually not. An active inline preamp draws 48V phantom power from the interface or mixer, and a condenser microphone also needs that power. The preamp may consume the available voltage before it reaches the microphone. Check the microphone and preamp specifications before connecting them.
Do I need a phantom-power blocker for a dynamic or ribbon microphone?
A dynamic microphone generally tolerates phantom power, but a passive ribbon microphone or other sensitive device may not. An inline blocker removes phantom power from the microphone path while retaining the audio signal. Confirm the device's wiring and place it between the microphone and the energised input.
