About the Clapperboards range
Choose between a conventional slate and a smart timecode slate based on your production workflow. A conventional board needs a clear writing surface, readable scene and take fields, a hinge that closes cleanly, and clapper sticks that create a distinct sound. Check the board dimensions before buying, as larger boards are easier to read in wider shots but can be awkward in tight spaces. Engraved or marked surfaces are useful for repeated production work, while a supplied marker can make setup simpler.
For basic camera and dual-system audio work, a standard slate is usually sufficient. A smart slate requires a compatible timecode workflow, including the cameras, audio recorders, timecode generators and post-production software used on set. Bluetooth or 2.4 GHz features do not automatically make equipment timecode-compatible, so check the product specifications and your existing devices. This category contains clapperboards only. Product pages list the dispatch time. Shipping is free to Australian addresses, and all prices include GST.
Clapperboards questions
What is the difference between a clapperboard and a smart slate?
A conventional clapperboard uses written production details and the clap as visual and audio sync references. A smart slate adds electronic timecode functions, which can help coordinate cameras and audio recorders when the rest of the production workflow supports the same timecode system.
What size clapperboard should I buy?
Choose a larger board when it must remain readable in wide shots or from a distance. A compact board is easier to hold and suits close framing, tabletop work and smaller crews. Check the listed dimensions rather than relying on terms such as standard or large.
Do I need a timecode slate for a single camera shoot?
Not usually. A conventional slate can identify scenes and takes and provide a clear sync point for separately recorded audio. A timecode slate is more relevant when several cameras or audio devices must share timecode, provided those devices and your editing workflow are compatible.
