Network Cables
2 products from SoundTools. Prices from $153.95 to $211.95, including GST.
Network Cables covers shielded Ethernet leads built for live production, AV and stage use. We stock SoundTools SuperCAT Cat 7 shielded cables fitted with etherCON connectors, which lock into matching chassis sockets on digital consoles, stage boxes and networked audio devices. They suit audio techs, production crews and installers who need a data link that survives being plugged in night after night.

About the Network Cables range
Choose by network standard, shielding and connector. Cat 6 and Cat 7 cable both handle gigabit Ethernet over the distances used on stage, and shielded construction helps reject interference from lighting dimmers and power cabling. etherCON connectors wrap a standard RJ45 plug in a rugged latching shell, so they still fit ordinary RJ45 sockets but only lock into etherCON chassis connectors. Length matters too: copper Ethernet is specified for runs up to 100 metres, but order the shortest length that reaches cleanly, since coiled slack clutters stages and cases.
Check what your equipment actually needs. Many digital mixers and stage boxes specify a minimum cable category and shielded cable for their snake link, and some require it to reach their stated run lengths. A shielded cable gives most benefit when the connectors and equipment are grounded through the shield, so use shielded connectors at both ends. Avoid tight bends and crushing under road cases, which can damage the twisted pairs inside. Label both ends on multi-cable runs so the right link goes to the right port.
Network Cables questions
Will an etherCON cable plug into a normal RJ45 socket?
Yes. The etherCON shell houses a standard RJ45 plug, so the cable fits ordinary Ethernet sockets on switches, computers and network devices. The locking latch only engages with an etherCON chassis connector, so a standard socket holds it like a regular patch lead.
Is Cat 7 cable needed for audio networking?
Dante and similar audio networks run over gigabit Ethernet, which Cat 5e and above can carry. Cat 7 shielded cable adds interference rejection and a sturdier jacket, which suits touring and stage runs near lighting and power. Check your console or stage box documentation for its cable requirements.
How long can a network cable run be?
Copper Ethernet is specified for runs of up to 100 metres between devices. For longer distances, add a switch in between or use fibre. On stage, choose the length that reaches the device neatly without large coils of slack behind the rack.
