About Roland

The V-8HD takes eight HDMI inputs and provides three HDMI outputs for program, preview and auxiliary feeds. Inputs 7 and 8 include scaling for computer sources from 640 x 480 up to 1920 x 1200, and the unit handles sources running at mismatched frame rates. A built-in 4.3 inch multi-view display shows your sources. Compositing covers two picture-in-picture layers, two chroma or luminance keyers and a downstream keyer, with cut, mix, wipe and split transitions. An 18-channel audio mixer adds per-input delay, EQ, compression and gating, plus master reverb and limiting.

Match your sources first. Cameras with a clean HDMI output connect to inputs 1 to 6, while laptops and presentation computers belong on inputs 7 and 8, where the scaler converts computer resolutions. For streaming, Roland suggests adding its UVC-01 USB video capture interface, which gives a plug and play feed to OBS Studio, YouTube, Facebook Live and Twitch. Remote control options include an iPad app, RCS software for macOS and Windows, and BOSS FS-5U, FS-6 or FS-7 footswitches for hands-free switching. Analogue audio can come in on the stereo RCA inputs.

Roland questions

How many inputs does the Roland V-8HD have?

The V-8HD has eight HDMI inputs and three HDMI outputs. Inputs 7 and 8 add scaling for computer resolutions from VGA up to WUXGA, and a stereo RCA input brings in analogue audio alongside the audio embedded in each HDMI source.

Can the Roland V-8HD stream over USB?

Not on its own. Roland recommends adding the UVC-01 USB video capture interface, which connects the V-8HD output to a computer as a plug and play source for OBS Studio, YouTube, Facebook Live and Twitch.

Does the Roland V-8HD mix audio as well as video?

Yes. It has an 18-channel audio mixer. Each input channel has a high-pass filter, noise gate, compressor, 3-band EQ and delay for lining up audio with video, and the master section adds reverb, multi-band compression and a limiter.
