About M-Audio
The M-Track Solo records at up to 48 kHz and is powered entirely over USB, so no separate power supply is needed. Its XLR microphone input runs through a Crystal preamp with phantom power for condenser microphones, with up to 54 dB of gain. Quarter-inch inputs take line level sources and instruments such as guitar and bass. Outputs are a stereo RCA pair for monitors and a 3.5 mm headphone socket, and a USB/Direct switch gives zero-latency monitoring of your input while recording. It comes with MPC Beats software, AIR effect plug-ins and several virtual instruments.
The M-Track Solo suits one person recording at a time: a podcaster with one microphone, a singer, or a guitarist recording direct. Because it has two channels, you can record a microphone and an instrument together, or two line sources such as a keyboard. Check your cables before ordering: monitors need RCA leads, and headphones with a 6.35 mm plug need an adapter for the 3.5 mm output. Dynamic microphones work without phantom power, while condenser microphones need it switched on. M-Audio lists support for Mac, Windows PC and iOS devices.
M-Audio questions
Does the M-Audio M-Track Solo need a power supply?
No. The M-Track Solo is powered by the USB connection to your computer, so there is no separate adapter. The same connection carries audio in and out. M-Audio lists compatibility with Mac, Windows PC and iOS devices.
Can I use a condenser microphone with the M-Track Solo?
Yes. The XLR input has a Crystal preamp with switchable phantom power, which condenser microphones need. Dynamic microphones also work on the same input. The preamp offers up to 54 dB of gain for quieter sources.
What software comes with the M-Track Solo?
M-Audio bundles MPC Beats recording software, a set of AIR effect plug-ins, virtual instruments including TubeSynth, Bassline and Electric, and ReValver guitar amp modelling. These cover recording, mixing and guitar tone shaping without buying extra software.
