About BrightSign

The XD236 is part of BrightSign's Series 6 range; the three-digit model has standard I/O, while the four-digit XD1036 adds expanded I/O. BrightSign lists 4K graphics, dual 10-bit 4K video decode at 60p, HDR support, H.265, H.264 and VP9 decoding, and 4K IP streaming. A signage player sits behind or near the screen and plays content from local storage or the network, taking the job away from a computer that can update, crash or show pop-ups on screen.

BSN.cloud is BrightSign's cloud platform. Basic device management, called BrightSign Control, is free with every player, while content scheduling and distribution sits in a paid subscription that BrightSign now calls Author Plus, formerly bsn.Content. Choose the subscription if you manage several screens or sites and want to update playlists remotely. For a single screen with occasional updates, local publishing may be enough. BrightSign publishes a 5 year warranty for Series 5 and later players bought from 1 January 2025, subject to registration.

BrightSign questions

What is the difference between the XD236 and XD1036?

Both are BrightSign Series 6 XD players. The three-digit XD236 has standard I/O, while the four-digit XD1036 adds expanded I/O for installations that need extra connections. If you only need a screen output, network and storage, the standard I/O model is usually enough.

Do I need a BSN.cloud subscription to use a BrightSign player?

No. Basic device management through BrightSign Control is free with every player. A paid content subscription adds cloud scheduling and distribution of presentations, content library management and user permissions, which helps when you run many screens.

What video formats does the XD236 play?

BrightSign lists H.265 (HEVC), H.264 and VP9 decoding for the XD6 series, with dual 10-bit 4K decode at 60p and HDR support. Check your content's codec, resolution and frame rate against these, and encode files to suit the display you are using.
