Start with the equipment the case must hold. For rack-mounted gear, check the required rack height in U or RU, available depth, rail spacing and clearance for connectors and cables. A 19-inch rack width is common, but not every mixer or recorder mounts in a rack. For portable cases and covers, compare the product's stated internal dimensions with your equipment, including knobs, handles, cables and any fitted accessories. Consider padding, shell construction, closures, handles and shoulder straps based on how often the gear travels.
Check the exact model listed for the case before ordering. A carrying bag sized for a Zoom LiveTrak L-20 may not suit another mixer, even if the controls look similar. Likewise, a cover for the RODECaster Pro II is not automatically suitable for every RODECaster model. Are road cases suitable for any audio mixer?
No. Fit depends on the mixer's dimensions, control layout, connectors and whether it requires rack mounting. Check the product description and measurements for the specific case. A case made for one mixer model may not provide clearance for another model, even within the same brand.
What does 1U or 2U mean in a rack case?
U, or RU, describes vertical rack space. One rack unit is 44.45 mm high, so a 2U case provides twice that mounting height. You also need to check the equipment's width, depth and rear cable clearance before choosing a rack case.
