About Megadap

Megadap adapters pass electronic signals between lens and body, so the camera can drive focus, set the aperture and record lens data in the image EXIF. The ETZ21 Pro Plus is an updated version of Megadap's Sony E to Nikon Z design, with a weather sealed build, improved plating on the contact pins and a revised lens release button. It supports Sony and third party E-mount lenses and works with Sony's LA-EA5 for selected A-mount lenses. The EFTZ21 adapts Canon EF lenses and supports lens stabilisation, auto aperture and the AF/MF switch on the lens.

Start with the lenses you already own: pick the ETZ21 Pro Plus for Sony FE glass and the EFTZ21 for Canon EF glass. Both suit full frame and APS-C Nikon Z bodies, and Megadap also lists RED cameras with a Z mount. Firmware can be updated through the Nikon Z camera, so check Megadap's site for the latest version before shooting. Megadap does not recommend the ETZ21 Pro Plus with lenses heavier than 1.5 kg, so support long telephotos by the lens foot. Autofocus performance varies by lens model.

Megadap questions

Does autofocus work through a Megadap adapter?

Yes. Both adapters support autofocus on Nikon Z bodies, and the ETZ21 Pro Plus is listed with AF-S, AF-C and Eye-AF. Speed and accuracy depend on the particular lens, so check Megadap's published compatibility notes for your lens.

How do I update the firmware?

Megadap states that its current adapters can be updated through the Nikon Z camera itself, without a separate dock. Firmware files and manuals are published on the Megadap website, and updating before a shoot can improve lens compatibility.

Can I use Sony A-mount lenses on a Nikon Z camera?

The ETZ21 Pro Plus supports Sony's LA-EA5 adapter, which allows selected Sony A-mount lenses to be stacked onto a Nikon Z body. Check Megadap's compatibility list before relying on a specific A-mount lens.
