About MAMEN

A clip-on lavalier, or lapel, microphone sits on clothing close to the speaker's mouth, so it picks up a clearer voice than a phone or camera's built-in microphone, especially in rooms with echo or background noise. The KM-A1 is a wired design: it plugs straight into the recording device, with no transmitter, receiver or charging involved. That makes it a simple option for interviews, talking-head videos, online lectures, video calls and short social clips where the speaker stays close to the recording device.

The key compatibility point with any wired lavalier is the plug. Phones with a headphone socket and many laptops use a four-pole TRRS 3.5 mm connection, while most cameras and audio recorders use a three-pole TRS 3.5 mm input, so check which your device needs and whether an adapter is included. Phones without a headphone socket need a USB-C or Lightning audio adapter. Clip the microphone about a hand's width below the chin, route the cable under clothing, and do a short test recording to set levels before you start.

MAMEN questions

Will the MAMEN KM-A1 work with my phone?

The KM-A1 is sold for use with smartphones, cameras and PCs. Phones with a 3.5 mm headphone socket can usually connect directly. Phones without one need a USB-C or Lightning to 3.5 mm audio adapter, sold separately.

Does a wired lavalier microphone need batteries?

Most wired lavalier microphones made for phones and computers draw power from the device they plug into, so there is nothing to charge. Some cameras need plug-in power switched on in their audio menu to power this type of microphone.

Where should I clip a lavalier microphone?

Clip it to the centre of your shirt or jacket, roughly a hand's width below the chin, facing up. Keep it clear of fabric that could rub, and loop the cable under clothing so movement does not tug on the microphone.
