About Mackie

The Big Knob series puts monitor volume and source switching on the desk. The Big Knob Studio is also a USB audio interface: it records at up to 192 kHz and 24-bit, has two Onyx microphone preamps with phantom power, selects between three sources and two pairs of monitors, and adds two headphone outputs, a talkback microphone, and mono, mute and dim buttons. The Big Knob Passive is a simpler 2x2 switcher with a fully passive signal path, a metal chassis and the same mono, mute and dim controls. The CR8BT monitors pair 8 inch woven woofers with silk dome tweeters and 140 watts of bi-amplified Class D power.

If you need to record as well as monitor, the Big Knob Studio replaces a separate interface, and it includes Waveform OEM software. If you already own an interface and only want level control and switching between two speaker pairs, the Big Knob Passive needs no power and has no USB or headphone outputs. The CR8BT accepts TRS, RCA and 3.5 mm inputs plus Bluetooth, so it connects to either Big Knob, a computer or a phone. A tone knob shapes bass and treble, a switch sets desktop or bookshelf placement, and isolation pads are included.

Mackie questions

Can the Mackie CR8BT play audio from a phone?

Yes. The CR8BT has built-in Bluetooth for wireless streaming from a phone, tablet or computer, plus wired TRS, RCA and 3.5 mm inputs. A headphone output lets you listen privately without disconnecting the speakers.

How many monitor pairs can a Mackie Big Knob control?

Both the Big Knob Studio and Big Knob Passive switch between two pairs of studio monitors. The Studio model selects from three input sources, including USB playback from your computer, while the Passive model selects from two sources.
