About LiveU

The Solo PRO is a portable bonding encoder for streaming from the field. It comes in an HDMI version and an SDI/HDMI version; we stock the HDMI model. It handles 4K sources, encodes in H.264 with optional HEVC/H.265, and can bond up to six IP connections at once: four external 4G or 5G USB modems, WiFi and a wired LAN link, at up to 20 Mbps. Streams are managed through the web-based Solo portal, which sends video to social platforms or custom destinations, including several destinations at the same time.

Start with the encoder, then add connectivity to suit where you stream. With WiFi or Ethernet only, the encoder can work on its own. For cellular bonding you need USB modems, which connect externally. The Split Y-Cables are a pair of USB-A male to dual USB-A female leads that let one USB port carry two modems, so both cables together support four. The Solo PRO Belt Pack is a zippered pouch with a clear vinyl window over the controls, a rear mesh pocket for modems and cables, and an adjustable belt, and it ships with two Y-cables.

LiveU questions

How many connections can the LiveU Solo PRO bond?

LiveU states the Solo PRO can bond up to six IP connections: four external 4G or 5G modems, WiFi and a wired LAN connection. Bonding spreads the stream across these links, which helps keep a broadcast running when one network is weak.

Do I need the Y-cables if I buy the Belt Pack?

The Solo PRO Belt Pack already includes two modem Y-cables, so most users running four modems in the pack will not need a separate pair. The standalone Split Y-Cables suit users who keep the encoder in its own sleeve or want spares.

Does the LiveU Solo PRO support HEVC?

Yes. The Solo PRO encodes in H.264 as standard, with optional HEVC/H.265 encoding. LiveU says HEVC gives similar quality in about half the bandwidth of H.264, which helps on congested mobile networks. Maximum streaming bitrate is 20 Mbps.
