Audinate is the Sydney company that developed Dante, a system for sending multichannel digital audio over standard computer networks, used in venues, broadcast and installed sound. From Audinate we stock Dante AVIO adapters: a 1-channel analogue input adapter and a 2-channel XLR analogue output adapter, which connect conventional audio gear to a Dante network.

About Audinate
AVIO adapters are small in-line converters. The 1-channel input adapter takes an analogue signal on a female XLR and puts it onto the network as 24-bit audio at 44.1, 48 or 96kHz, and it also supports AES67. The 2-channel output adapter does the reverse, taking two channels from the network and presenting them on XLR outputs for powered speakers, amplifiers or recorders. AVIO adapters are powered over Ethernet, so a PoE switch or injector supplies power and data through one cable with no separate power supply.
Before ordering, check that your switch provides PoE on the ports you plan to use, as an unpowered port will not run the adapter. Routing is set up in Dante Controller software, so allow time to name devices and create subscriptions. Check the input level specification if you plan to connect a microphone, since microphones usually need a preamp first. Keep clocking in mind: one device on the network acts as leader clock, and all devices should run at the same sample rate.
Audinate questions
Do Dante AVIO adapters need a power supply?
No separate supply is needed. AVIO adapters draw power over Ethernet, so connect them to a PoE switch port or a PoE injector. The network cable then carries both power and audio. Check that your switch supports the PoE standard the adapter lists.
What software do I need for Dante AVIO adapters?
Routing between Dante devices is set up in Audinate's Dante Controller software, where you name devices and subscribe receivers to transmitters. Plan your channel names and sample rate before a show so the setup is quick to check on site.
Who makes Dante?
Dante was developed by Audinate, a company based in Sydney, Australia. Many consoles, stage boxes and speakers support Dante, and AVIO adapters let you bring analogue equipment without a network port into the same system.
