About Atmosphere Aerosol
Haze makes light visible: beams from windows, practical lamps and backlights show up as shafts, and the background softens for a sense of depth. According to the maker, the spray contains propane, butane and medicinal-grade mineral oil, with no CFCs, and an 8 ounce can sprays continuously for about five and a half minutes. The maker also states the can does not expire, so a partly used can can stay in a kit until the next shoot. Short bursts work better than one long spray.
Build haze gradually. Spray a few short bursts away from the subject, wait for it to spread evenly, then check on camera and add more if needed. Backlighting shows haze far more than front light. The propellant is flammable, so keep cans away from heat, flames and hot lights, and ventilate enclosed spaces afterwards. Smoke detectors and fire systems can react to haze, so check with the venue before spraying indoors, and let people nearby know if they have respiratory sensitivities.
Atmosphere Aerosol questions
How long does a can of Atmosphere Aerosol last?
The maker states an 8 ounce can sprays continuously for about five and a half minutes. In practice you spray in short bursts, so a can covers many setups depending on room size, airflow and how dense you want the haze.
Will haze spray set off smoke detectors?
It can. Haze particles may trigger optical smoke detectors and building fire systems. Check with the venue or building manager before using it indoors, and arrange for detectors to be managed by someone authorised to do so.
What is in Atmosphere Aerosol haze spray?
According to the maker's FAQ, it contains propane, butane and medicinal-grade mineral oil, with no CFCs. Propane and butane are flammable propellants, so keep the can away from heat, open flames and hot lights, and store it as you would other aerosols.
