365 Films is the brand on two pieces of production gear we stock: a Picatinny rail mount for GoPro cameras and a 6 x 3 metre chroma blue screen backdrop. The mount puts an action camera on rail-equipped gear for point-of-view footage, and the backdrop gives room for full-body keying. They suit videographers, content creators and small studios.

About 365 Films

The rail mount attaches a GoPro to a Picatinny rail, the MIL-STD-1913 standard with a T-shaped rail and square slots at regular intervals, originally designed for mounting sights and accessories. Accessories made for the similar Weaver rail generally fit a Picatinny rail, but Picatinny accessories do not always fit a Weaver rail, because the slot sizes and shapes differ. Check which profile your rail uses before ordering. Tighten the mount firmly and add a lanyard wherever vibration or knocks are likely during recording.

The 6 x 3 metre blue screen gives space for full-body shots and small groups. Blue and green are used for chroma keying because they sit furthest from skin tones, and blue is the better choice when the subject is mostly green, such as plants or green clothing. Light the backdrop evenly, since shadows and creases key poorly, and keep the subject well away from it so blue light does not spill onto hair and shoulders. Steam or stretch out creases before the shoot.

365 Films questions

Should I use a blue screen or a green screen?

Green is more common because cameras are more sensitive to green light and green is rarer in clothing. Blue suits subjects that are mostly green, such as plants, or people wearing green. Either works if the screen is evenly lit and the subject avoids clothing in the same colour.

Will the Picatinny mount fit a Weaver rail?

Not always. Picatinny and Weaver rails differ in the size and shape of their slots. Weaver accessories generally fit Picatinny rails, but the reverse does not always work, so check the rail on your equipment before ordering the mount.

How do I stop creases showing on a fabric backdrop?

Stretch the fabric tight on a frame or stand system with clamps, and steam out creases before the shoot. Even lighting from two or more lights reduces the shadows that creases create, which makes keying cleaner and saves time fixing edges later.
